Have powdered milk, make pastillas! That is just what my daughter did when she saw a big jar of powdered milk, untouched and just sitting on the pantry cabinet.
Pastillas de Leche is different in taste and texture from the Pastillas made out of powdered milk. The former is made out of fresh cow’s milk and is more tedious to make because constant stirring on top of a stove is required until the liquid milk transfroms into a paste-like consistency. This milky Pastillas recipe needs no cooking except for the butter which has to be melted in a microwave oven or on stove top.
I searched for a good pastillas recipe in the web, and found one from the Filipino website – Panlasang Pinoy.
The Pastillas is easy to prepare and make. Be sure to wear plastic disposable gloves when you are to roll them or yoir hands will get all oily because of the butter.
For the Pastillas, you will need:
1 1/2 cups powdered Full Cream Milk
1/2 cup condensed milk
1/4 cup melted butter
Sift powdered milk into condensed milk.
Add in melted butter. Mix and blend well.Knead and set aside for 5 to 10 minutes before shaping into small balls or small cylinders.Roll in sugar and wrap in cellophane.
